[Calvary Chapel] 2015-11-20 - Humbly

Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?

What is it to be humble? From dictionary.com the second definition is the one that I believe many people associate with the word humble:

2. having a feeling of insignificance, inferiority, subservience, etc.

The first definition might surprise some:

1. not proud or arrogant; modest;

The second definition brings to my mind the old English word downcast. Someone who feels they are not worthy of being treated well or that they have no value. The first definition is more about behavior than it is feelings. This person does not seek the spotlight, or otherwise demand attention whether it is deserved or not. This is one of the three corners of this triangle of requirements the Lord places on us.

This set of interlocking attributes are a high standard worth trying to attain. Not just understanding justice, but being just in all our actions. Having kindness at the core of our beings is not always easy when we have been hurt emotionally or physically, but we are to love kindness. Along with being humble these are facets of our calling.

As believers we are both children and servants of God. We are His Ambassadors that represent the kingdom at all times. When we stumble we have an advocate in Jesus Who hears are request for forgiveness and is willing to restore His child who asks with a humble heart.

We have a great deal to be thankful for in the salvation given freely to us. In humble thanks let us keep these three pieces in mind as we walk through this life.

Selah.

Grace & Peace,
Mike
