2015-12-14 - What's to Eat?
I have always been careful about calories, water intake, and ate fried foods and sweet desserts only as a treat. With four basic food groups at a person s disposal, imagine having the bulk of those food items taken away in an instant.
I recently was tested for food allergies and the results were not what I expected. The test revealed that there were 14 foods that were causing allergic reactions, and so I began a life without wheat, diary, certain fruits, spices, and vegetables. It was harder, if not impossible to go out to dinner with friends or family. A trip to the grocery store proved more emotional than watching a sad movie. All I had to lean on was God and not the slice of pizza or pile of pretzels my stomach now craved.
When I limited the foods I was allergic to, I believed I was missing out on something. Soon my taste buds got used to the new foods. While it is a struggle at times, I can and do tell my flesh no and still survive!
The act of obedience has renewed my commitment and reverence to God. I relate to that deer depicted in Psalm 42. “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” (Psalm 42:1-2 NIV) The animal is lapping up its refreshment, just as we yearn for the Lord’s company when we need a helper or shoulder to cry and lean upon.
Lord, Thank You for seeing past my imperfections. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
