2016-01-06 - Wild Card
The NFL is wrapping up their regular season, and about to begin the playoffs before Super Bowl Fifty Sunday, February 7th 2016. I’m still wrapping my head around it now being 2016. In spite of that, there have already been some exciting games this week to begin the New Year, including Peyton Manning’s return to play for the Broncos in the second half against the Chargers. And the Steelers after playing very badly last week against the Ravens, stepped up against the Browns to seal a wild card spot in the playoffs - also due to the Bills beating the Jets. It’s crazy, sometimes, to think about how all the results have to line game-wise up for each section of the NFL to have their teams in the order called the playoffs. Do you know anyone who is a wild card? Someone that with what seems like all the odds against them, who somehow manages to forge ahead with a victory?
Lately in our house, the wild card is our oldest dog, Barbie. She is seventeen and is approaching her eighteenth birthday in February - oddly enough, six days after the Super Bowl. I am wondering if she’s holding out for either the game or her birthday, or perhaps maybe both. Barbie was doing quite poorly for the last few weeks or so. I was quite sure, several times, that she wasn’t going to make it till morning. Well, tonight our little wild card just ate some of her canned food for the first time in about three weeks. She had only been sporadically eating, barely eating at all, or sometimes eating one day and then not the next. She is forging ahead, in spite of all the odds. I know that one way or the other, she doesn’t have too much more time on, this earth; however, she’s forcing me to see things a little differently, and so I guess I’ll just take some time to see the world from her point of view. Her view includes: It’s not over until the last minute, I’m down yet still here, and as long as I’m here I’m going to savor ever second and bite of whatever I feel like eating. My wise little friend, the dancing queen - beautifully and wonderfully made.
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” (Psalm 139:14)
