2015-02-01 - What would Shammah Say?
David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:45-47 NIV)
It was good of Dad, to have David bring food to us, but David had no right to talk to the other men. He needed to go home and tend to his precious sheep. My younger brother has a lot of nerve.
David kept asking what the reward was, for killing the giant Goliath. Pure nonsense, to think David could kill a frightening creature. David bragged that he'd save the day and kill Goliath. No one else has been able to, what makes David so special?
So my kid brother has killed a bear and lion. Big deal, that goes with the territory, when a shepherd defends his flock. King Saul was impressed with David's credentials, so David was allowed to fight Goliath. To my astonishment, he won! David is talented with a rock and a sling, but he has no ego at all. He gave all the credit to God.
Lord, I praise You for granting me strength and success today
