We are not to be concerned about clothes. That does not stop me from cringing, when I see my daughter's clothing choices. My daughter always picks what color headband or barrettes she wears to school. There are times the colors don't match her clothing. I gently show her this fact, and then she begrudgingly picks something else.
Does it really matter the color of the accessories? Jesus says no.
"And why do you worry about clothes? Look at how the lilies in the field grow. They don’t work or make clothes for themselves. But I tell you that even Solomon with his riches was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers. God clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today but tomorrow is thrown into the fire. So you can be even more sure that God will clothe you. Don’t have so little faith!" (Matthew 6:28-30 NCV)
Why do I put so much emphasis on color schemes, or what matches with what item? My daughter is happy with her hair creations. It is probably one of the fun things about getting ready for school, and unless her hair creations are totally odd or flamboyant, I'm learning to leave her alone. No one seems to comment on her unmatched hair accessories except me, anyway.
Our focus needs to be on the Lord, and not on what people think. We can be secure, knowing God loves us, regardless of what clothes we are wearing.
Lord, You know what we need. I look to You, instead of worrying. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
