[Calvary Chapel] 2016-07-07 - Our Passions

- - - - - - -

Jude 17-19 (ESV) But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit.

I don't watch a lot of the nightly news, but even I can see this matching headlines so current that the ink isn't try yet. There is an influence in the culture we live in today barely tolerates Christianity. We were told this would happen by Jesus. It has happened before and, unless this is the final cycle, it will happen again.

Am I saying that these are the last days? While it is possible that we are only the Father knows when He will send the Son to bring His children home. There are lovers of money, possessions, drugs and power without a heart for the people around them. They follow their own passions. They want their own way believing it will fill void in their lives.

While the nations may rage against us we are called to pray. Read 2 Chronicles 7:14 again, and read verse 15 along with it. What should our hearts and minds be passionate about? Are we following those passions? Many of us are bogged down in financial, work, or family struggles. While it is important to keep these things there is a culture turning its back on God and walking away.

Even though they may rail against us we may be their only lifeline. Many say the church is no longer relevant. If we refocus our passions with God's in our daily walk giving them priority we may see relevance again.

Ephesians 6:23-24 (ESV) Peace be to the brothers, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible.

1 Peter 3:12, Matt 5:44 Selah.

Father - stoke the fires in our hearts that burn low in us. Help us walk and speak with Your grace and mercy to the world around us trying to fill their lives with things that will not last. Open their eyes, ears and hearts. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
Mike
