1 Kings 17:4 It shall be that you will drink of the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to provide for you there.”
I was having a discussion with a good friend of mine a few days ago. He suddenly piped up with the question, "Do you remember how Elijah was fed in the wilderness?" I replied that Elijah had been fed by ravens as God had promised. Then a second question, "What kind of birds are ravens?" I replied that the were scavengers - which is at least partially correct. They will eat carrion, insects, small animals like mice and some slightly larger animals, so they also hunt. They pick from whatever humans leave behind as well. And, they are very intelligent.
My basic answer was what my friend was wanting, and he made his point. They are not the cleanest of birds known to scavenge at landfills and the like. But these were the creatures that the Lord chose to bring food to Elijah morning and evening. They were His servants providing for the Prophet as he hid near the brook Cherith.
So, if God will use Ravens to feed Elijah, and He knows when a sparrow falls to the ground and dies (Matt 10:29), the Lord of Heaven can use you or me, if He choses, to accomplish His purposes regardless of our situation, our education, etc. If there is any doubt in your mind that God can use you just as you are be assured that He can and will if you will trust Him.
Are you willing to trust Him?
The ravens answered His call and delivered meat and bread to Elijah morning and evening. You and I have good news that is worth telling. God promised to make us fishers of men. When you go fishing you have to throw in a hook in order to catch a fish. Simon, whose profession was fishing trusted Jesus after fishing all night and catching nothing to drop his nets in a place where the fisherman did not expect to catch anything - He trusted Jesus' call. (Matt 5:5)
Matt 5:5-6 Simon answered and said, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets.” 6 When they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to break;
