[CF Devotionals] 2016-10-29 - Faith and Action

Nehemiah 4:9 --But we prayed to our God, and posted a guard day and night, to meet this threat.

Nehemiah and the returning Israelites faced opposition when they returned to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Their enemies became angry, hurled insults, and threatened to attack the workers. Nehemiah and the people turned to God in prayer, and then they took action by posting armed guards.

First, they showed their faith by going to God in prayer. They trusted that He would listen and would provide assistance. Second, the people of Israel demonstrated their resolve with action. They prepared for military action.

This short verse shows how faith and action go together. God wants us to turn to Him with our problems and concerns, and He also wants us to act on our faith. We are to be ready to respond to threats to our faith. Are we ready to act in faith?
