2016-11-21 - What's Your Hurry?
Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. (Matthew 14:22)
The first word of this chapter stuck out to me. I rarely pictured the Lord doing anything immediately. After all, there were prayers that did not get a response as quickly as I would have liked, some have yet to be answered. This verse was a kind reminder to never doubt that Jesus is in charge.
There are many instances where Jesus did things without a delay. For example, Jesus healed many instantaneously, cursed a barren tree, and saved a friend from drowning during His Earthly ministry. (See Luke 13:13, Matthew 8:3, 14:29-31, and 21:18-19)
Have there been times Jesus immediately acted in your behalf? If so what was the outcome and did it affect your relationship with Him?
Or was there a time you expected/wanted the Lord to move sooner and He did not? How did that affect your attitude toward Him? It's during the waiting process when we need God's comfort. He isn't punishing us while we wait. When we don’t understand what the holdup is, may we gain His perspective and peace knowing God is working and moving on our behalf.
