2016-12-03 - God's Kingdom
Luke 17:20-21 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you."
As we enter the season of Advent, the preparation for Christmas, we anticipate the celebration of the coming of Christ. We study the Scriptures to read the stories of Mary and Joseph, Zechariah and Elizabeth, John the Baptist, the shepherds in the field, and the angels. We prepare our hearts and minds for the arrival of our Savior.
But Luke tells us that we already have the kingdom of God within us. We don't have to wait for Christmas, in order to welcome Christ into our hearts and lives. We are members of God's kingdom, and Jesus is our King. So as we prepare to celebrate Christmas, we can also celebrate our role in God's kingdom, and we can remember when Jesus came to Earth to free us from our sins.
