[Calvary Chapel] 2017-03-02 - Miracles of Time

- - - - - - -

Joshua 10:13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.

This event is one that people have been struggling with on both sides of the discussion whether this is a record of a real event or a parable. I have cause to believe the former is true as of yesterday.

I have a friend who slipped from this life early yesterday morning. He was one of the group I was part of during my full-time college years. We where able to stay in touch through social media and a group reunion. Let's call him Mr. A. We received the sad news that Mr. A had left this mortal life yesterday morning. Another, very insightful member of our group pointed out that we had seen a miracle in time. Clearly while we continued to pray for a miracle of healing, we were given another kind of miracle.

When Mr. A arrived at the hospital about three weeks ago he was still alive, but either very limited in his ability to respond or unresponsive. We were told the prognosis was a few hours to a few days before he would die. Either the following morning or the second morning, to the utter amazement of all of us, Mr. A awoke completely coherent about who was with him, etc.. He was in ICU until two days ago when his health began to slide again. He was moved to a quieter room and made comfortable until he slipped away from us.

Our very insightful friend pointed out very clearly we had been given time. The one thing that can not be recovered once it is gone. Time stood still for us just as it did for Israel. Most of three weeks had been supplied to Mr. A and all his friends and family.

It's easy to see some miracles. A baby born safely, for example, is always recognized as miraculous. But there are other events that cross our paths that can be missed in the flurry of activity surrounding them. The gift of time is unique and I think it's fairly rare. It is possible I'm missing those miracles. Be watching with me to see the miracles of all types that touch our lives.

Selah.

Lord - We thank you for the time that was given to Mr. A to be shared with family and friends. While we mourn our loss we are very grateful for the moments shared with others that would otherwise not have happened without Your miraculous gift. Open our eyes to the miracles that happen right in front of us great and small. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
Mike
