2017-03-16 - Works of Relevance
Ephesians 2:10 (AMP) For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above–spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].
This is a very popular, very powerful verse of scripture. Paul encourages us letting us know that God sees us as works of art. Many of us have days where we see this and days that we can not begin to imagine the idea of artwork applying to ourselves. None the less this is a promise to each one of us. We are a work in progress that may not be completed until we get home to Heaven.
Why am I here? That question gets asked a lot by many people. One reason is given right here.
"for good works which God prepared beforehand, so that we would walk in them"
In God's plan we are His representatives, His Ambassadors. And like earthly Ambassadors we have a message to deliver. Sometimes it is delivered by writing a letter or a book, or by mowing the lawn of a neighbor who is injured. These acts are "good works" along with many other things.
A friend reminded me today of the Muslim group that raised money to repair a vandalized Jewish cemetery. The fund raising effort well exceeded their plans. So far they have contacted three addition Jewish organizations that were dealing with anti-semitic vandalism. This is an exceptional example, and while it was not a Christian group that stood in the gap for the victims, it is a bright example to us all of what God will do with willing hands.
Just like there are times when we don't feel like artwork that God has created, it does not change the fact that we are His children. He has prepared us, and is continually in the process of moving us toward the day when we will stand before Him spotless. In preparation for that day there are things great and small that we can do to be relevant in our daily lives to those around us.
We may never fully understand the impact of a simple act of kindness until we sit at Jesus' feet. Selah!
Grace & Peace,
