2017-04-15 - Good Friday ~ Death on the Cross
Mark 15:37-39 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, heard his cry and saw how he died, he said, "Surely this man was the Son of God."
Some people are confused about what "Good Friday" really means. One store even advertised "Good Friday just got even better."
But actually, on this Friday over two thousand years ago, Jesus was crucified on the cross. His death followed a fake trial, beatings, and insults. His death on the cross was a painful and agonizing death. Jesus suffered on the cross for our sins. The Centurion, head of the Roman troops at the site, observed Jesus during this ordeal, carefully watching Jesus die. This Roman citizen also realized who Jesus was--the Son of God. The Centruion's life was changed on this Good Friday.
What about you? Did Jesus change your life when you realized that he died for you on the cross that day? Will you allow him to help you die to your sins today - perhaps foul language, a bad habit, a judgmental spirit toward those you don't know well, temper in traffic? What Cross-covered sins do you need Jesus' help with?
