So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff of God in his hand. Exodus 4:20
Zipporah changed during the years she was married to Moses. At their first meeting, Moses, a stranger, helped Zipporah and her six sisters water their flock. He came to their aid against some shrewd shepherds. Now married with children, it is Zipporah who rises to the occasion of heroine.
When Moses failed to circumcise one of their sons, Zipporah stepped in and did it. God commanded that every male child be circumcised. By disregarding God’s commandment, Moses’ life was in jeopardy. Zipporah did not think, but acted and circumcised her son to save her husband’s life. She did not question her role as wife, mother, woman, or daughter. Zipporah proved she could handle any situation, however unpleasant.
Zipporah was a little angry with Moses for putting her in the position to take on a task she normally would not have had to perform, but she was level-headed. When faced with danger, she did what she had to in order to protect her family.
Lord, Help me make the most of every situation, and take away any fear that gets in the way of doing Your will. Please keep Your perfect eyes on me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
