I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” (Psalm 91:2)
Psalm 91:2 is a good verse to speak out loud. Regardless of what's happening in your life-concerns or a cheery day. I spoke the above verse right after praying, and I felt relieved, but then a flood of concerns and reminders of unfinished projects filled my mind, and I quickly became overwhelmed.
I trusted in God as my fortress and refuge, but admit that had little effect, as I didn't completely know what those two words meant. The trusty dictionary says a fortress is an exceptionally secure place. This isn't anything DIY. God is top of the line. A refuge is shelter from danger and protection from trouble.
The Lord knew we would face danger and fear. (See John 16:32, also.) God did not leave anything to chance, and provided Himself as a help from life's crises. So now when I speak Psalm 91:2, I can confidently say that God is my protection, and I am totally secure.
Lord, When I am in need, I will turn to You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
