2017-07-14 - Do It Anyway
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5)
Simon worked all night and caught no fish. Nothing. Then Jesus told Simon to come out of the deep water and catch some fish. It did not make sense to Simon's rational mind, but the fisherman did what Jesus said. That's faith-when the dots don't connect and you proceed anyway. Simon was speechless when he saw all the fish in the boat. When was the last time God amazed you?
Do you really live each day, expecting great things? Not me. I tend to plod along in my routine. I always pray God will protect me, so I can wake up and go into autopilot and do it all over again the next day! If I followed Simon's example, I would see that there is something more, something beyond the normal routine-if we listen out for the Lord's voice.
When Simon obeyed God, he was blessed. The fisherman received an overabundance of fish with little effort. We can experience a miracle when we obey. Ironically, Simon left his enormous and profitable catch to become a disciple of Jesus Christ. Jesus told Simon to be a partner in the miracle department. Are you willing to follow the Lord when things don't always make rational sense?
Lord, Don't let my mind get in the way and find excuses for not obeying You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
