2017-12-02 - Waiting for Christmas
Psalm 27:14 "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart, and wait for the Lord." (NIV)
The time before Christmas is a time of waiting. We eagerly await the arrival of Christmas Day. We wait in lines of traffic, to get to the shopping malls. We stand in line to purchase our gifts. We stand by until our name is called, for seating in our favorite holiday restaurant, and then we wait for our food to finally arrive. We eagerly anticipate our gifts. At other times in our lives, we wait for test results, answers to important questions, and many more things.
Two millennia ago, the people of the Holy Land were waiting, too. They were looking for God's promised Messiah, whom they hoped would free them from the oppressive rule of the Romans, and who would be their King. The prophets had foretold of the arrival of the Messiah. However, the Messiah that God would send to them would not be a military deliverer. Instead, He would be the Deliverer from their sins.
Today, God is waiting, too. He is waiting for us to turn our lives over to Him, and to put our trust in His Son, Jesus Christ, who came to Earth at Christmas. Jesus came to deliver us from our sins. He is waiting for us to confess our sins to Him, and to ask for His forgiveness. He is waiting to become the Lord of our lives.
Will you keep Jesus waiting?
