2018-01-13 - Following Jesus
I recently applied for a government permit. The application was several pages long, with many questions to be answered. I had to sign the paperwork four times. My picture was taken, and I had to pay an application fee. After spending thirty minutes in the local government office, I was told that I would hear back from them in a week or so. I left, not knowing whether or not my application would be approved.
What is the process for becoming a Christian? Jesus said to Phillip, "Follow me." (John 1:43). Jesus instructed Andrew to "Come, and you will see." (John 1:39) These disciples did not have to fill out an application. They didn't have to sign four times. They just needed to listen to Jesus' call and to follow Him. It is the same for us today. When we hear the call of Jesus, we don't have to fill out an application. We don't have to take an entrance test or follow a checklist. When we hear Jesus' call, we are to act in faith and put our trust in Him. We are to believe in His sacrifice for our sins. As a result, our lives change, and we are new creations. Then we can lead others to Jesus, too.
