2018-03-10 - Running the Race
1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
Right now, the inspiring Paralympics may be found on several television channels. At the time 1 Corinthians was written, the Corinthians were familiar with foot races. The Isthmian games were held every other year. Runners competed in the foot races to win the coveted prize of a wreath, which was placed upon their heads in front of the other runners and many spectators. The runners trained year-round for this great competition. But days after the race, the wreath withered. Their prize had faded away.
Paul used this athletic example to teach the Corinthians about faith. As we run the race of life, we put our faith in Jesus Christ. We look to him as we compete in the arena of life. Yet our prize is eternal life. And there is not just one prize given. Anyone who puts their faith in Jesus is a recipient. Are you running the race? Have you received the prize? Have you put your faith in Christ?
