2018-03-13 - Chaos Theory

My husband Richard worked at the FAA for almost three decades. From time to time, the upper management in D. C. went with too many trends, trying out procedures that didn't work for a safety-related agency (nor for many period!). Back in the mid-to-late 1990’s, during the "Reinventing Government" debacle, at the behest of then Vice-President Al Gore, they implemented a "Quality through Partnership" management program, whereby no one was a "boss." As common sense would tell you, chaos ensued. They found that next-to-nothing was accomplished, everything was in disarray, and they needed to reinstate actual orthodox management procedures (surprise, surprise - not!).
This can occur in our spiritual lives, as well. Who is in charge of your life? If you are cut off in traffic, is God in charge, so that you take a deep breath and don't respond? Or is your emotion in charge, so that you make a face, sputter out some foul language - or even make a gesture - which is not only ungodly, but in these days and times, dangerous?
If your spouse / child / parent / friend / student / fellow church member does something that irritates you, is God in charge, in which case you will patiently and kindly respond - which does not preclude discussion of the matter, if it happens again? Or do you respond in kind, just adding fuel to the fire?
You get the picture. Let's be intentional about thinking through our days. If God's not usually in charge of our behavior and responses, let's pray that He will help us realize that we don't have a "partnership." He should always be in charge.
Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. (NKJV)
