[CF Devotionals] 2018-04-18 - As I Sleep

- - - - - - -

At whatever point you may rest in the twenty-four hours that we call a day, there are plenty of activities occurring simultaneously. Medical Interns are going to work, waitresses and waiters are just heading home, someone is up taking care of a family member, another cannot get to sleep and is watching an old movie or reading a book to wind down, a truck driver is hauling the cargo of the day, a train conductor is boisterously announcing the eminent crossing of his path, a four-axle with lift truck is being maneuvered by its master to haul off old asphalt as a road is prepared for paving when traffic is low; the list goes on. While each of us takes the time needed to refresh and prepare for our upcoming day, countless others are working behind the scenes with their part of the puzzle.

This, to me, is a wonderful reminder to me of how God continually works behind the scenes in every aspect of my life. It is quite easy to get caught up in the bustle of daily living, and lose sight of just how much he does all the time. The very breath we draw in and out, one at a time, is worth considering. A thank-offering of pausing and reflecting throughout the day, is a wonderful approach to give God praise for all he has provided. I am so grateful for my gifts throughout my days, and as I sleep.

“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Gen 2:7)

“The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” (Job 33:4)

“By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.” (Psalm 33:6)

“For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. 12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” (Isaiah 55:10-12)
