When we moved into our new house thirteen years ago, the builder planted some small bushes beside the front sidewalk. These little plants weren't much more than twigs. Shortly thereafter, we had several tropical weather systems move through, which washed our grass seeds away. Then we had several years of serious drought. Most of the landscaping plants that the builder planted washed away or dried up. But the puny shrubs survived. Today they are so big, that we have to prune them regularly. Birds seek shelter in them during the winter, and armadillos dig shelter holes behind them.
In Matthew 13:31-32, Jesus uses the description of the mustard tree to illustrate our faith. Though our faith starts out small, it grows, as we mature as Christians. The small seed of faith grows into a fruitful, productive life. Is your faith growing? How can you use it to help others?
