2018-06-09 - Solomon's Search
The Bible tells us that Solomon was a very smart man. In 1 Kings 4:29 (NIV), we find this passage--"God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore." And two verses later 1 Kings 4:31 says, "He was wiser than any other man…." People came from all around, to hear Solomon's wise sayings and seek advice from him. Yet Solomon had his doubts and worries. Solomon wrote the Book of Ecclesiastes, which is a search for meaning of life. In this book, Solomon takes stock of the world and his existence in it. What was Solomon's purpose? What was he to do? The book is a record of his search and thoughts.
Solomon reaches the conclusion that God has created this world with meaning and purpose. Man finds his meaning in life, by relying on God and His promises. We should enjoy what God has given us. Solomon found that "God has made everything beautiful in its time." (Ecclesiastes 3:11, NIV) Solomon also says, "Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work--this is a gift of God."(Ecclesiastes 5:19, NIV)
When we have doubts and worries, like Solomon, we can consider God's blessings and promises for our life. God has promised to provide for us. He wants us to enjoy our lives, as we serve Him and help others.
