2018-06-28 - Are You Feeling Insignificant?
Romans 12:4-6 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;
This is a very frequently quoted verse, with good reason. For those of you who feel your contribution to the Kingdom of God is insignificant, think again.
David was a shepherd. Chosen by God called from the field watching his father's flock. Interesting thought. After all of David's older brothers had been passed over to be Israel's first King, David was chosen. That was much to the surprise of everyone including his father. But David was acting responsibly with guarding the sheep. He killed bears and lions protecting the flock. (1 Samuel 17) God saw David's great faith and heart.
Being a shepherd was not the most glorious job. My grandfather had sheep. He would let them out to pasture and call them back to the barn as evening approached. One time my brother and I went with him as he called them to come home with a ear-piecing whistle. He counted them as the came though the gate and one was missing. He knew which one by name. My brother and I went out with him to find that sheep and herded him back.
Without my grandfather's effort the sheep might have been caught by a coyote over night. Not unlike David, he made a difference in what might have seemed and insignificant moment. You may have dismissed something of your own effort thinking it unworthy of notice. But God sees your heart and your faith! Trust Him. You are part of the body of Christ. Together we one body - making a difference in this world for Him.
Father - Keep us mindful that we should be working together with the gifts and talents we have been given making a difference. Help us have open eyes and hearts for the special moments we see in front of us. Thank You for your protection and provision. Amen.
Grace & Peace,
