2018-09-27 - His Hands and Feet

- - - - - - -

Isaiah 25:4
For You have been a stronghold for the helpless,
A stronghold for the poor in his distress,
A shelter from the storm, a shade from the heat;
For the breath of tyrants
Is like a rainstorm against a wall.

This is Isaiah praising his Lord for all the provision he has seen for the captive people of Israel. Today there are people who are in a difficult situation. The remnants of the recent hurricane still hang over North and South Carolina. There are rivers that still have yet to reach flood stage. These people need help, and many are getting help.

There is a girl who has been held captive by a terrorist group in Africa for well over a year. She has been threatened with execution because she will not recant her faith in Jesus Christ and convert to Islam. She is standing firm in her faith. She knows her eternal destiny is settled and secure. Even though she is held captive she is free in her faith. And, she is being a powerful example to her captors.

There are situations where it is difficult to help people like this very special young lady. What a heart she has! There is an advocate group working fighting for this one and her fellow captives to free them. There are many people who have lost homes and more to this hurricane. There are thousands of first responders from fire and rescue to electrical technical people who are working to rescue people, others who are providing food, and still many, many more using their time and skills to help people in great need.

These unsung hands and feet are doing what they can do. Some are risking their putting their lives at risk in the process.

Paul writing to the Corinthians and the Hebrews (1 Cor 11:1 and Heb 13:7) urged them to imitate him as he imitated Christ. Some of us give to organizations who provide help. This is fine. Some are not able to do that. Others quietly provide their skills to help those who can not help themselves. Some work behind the scenes supporting others doing the work. If that is where God called them to be, so be it.

I say all of this not to shame anyone. It is to encourage prayers to be offered to support these people who are captives and others giving their time and effort. It requires a gift of your time and your heart, and being consistent. Be grateful when prayers are answered. The giving is up to you and if you are able. We are called to be His hands and feet. Listen for the still, small voice that might call your heart to something that might change your life.

Selah. Think about it.
