2018-11-03 - Take a Break
When we were having problems with a certain phone model, Jan’s battery percentage went from 100% to 30% over night, and when I woke up in the morning, my phone battery had gone from 100% to 14% overnight. They definitely needed to be recharged. That is true for us as Christians, as well.
Mark 6:30-31 (NIV)--The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."
We live in a fast-paced society. We rush from one place to another, and we multitask as we go. We eat on the run. Sometimes it seems like we have little time to spare. Jesus' recognized that his disciples were facing a similar situation. Jesus sent them on a missionary trip, to nearby villages. They returned with news about their successes. Jesus recognized that they needed to get some rest, so He took them away for a break from their duties.
We need to follow Jesus' example and take breaks. We need to spend time with our families and friends, and to rest. Like some batteries, we need to be recharged. We can't serve God and others, if we are depleted of energy.
