2019-03-16 - Preparing Our Minds
Editor's Note: Since Lent is a time of preparation for Easter, today, we present an encore devotional about preparation.
"Therefore, prepare your minds for action …" 1 Peter 1:13
I am currently reading a book about the U.S. Navy's combat experiences in the Pacific, in the opening year of World War II. The first year found numerous instances where the American forces suffered losses of ships and men. One point that is evident is that the U.S. Navy was not prepared for the kind of battles that were fought. They had not trained for the kind of war they were fighting.
Similarly, we are to be prepared for the battles that we fight daily. We face numerous situations that require us to be prepared for action – from unfavorable medical diagnoses to depression, to temptation.
How are we to prepare? We should spend time reading the Scriptures, which are God's instructions for us. We should talk to God daily, through prayer. We should attend worship services and Sunday school, to learn more about God, and also seek out the wise counsel of fellow Christians.
Are you training your mind for acting in God’s will in your life?
