In Luke 9:57-62, we find Jesus calling two men to follow Him. Both men make excuses for not listening to Jesus and for not following Him. Jesus tells them to "Go out and proclaim the Kingdom of God." (Luke 9:60, NIV) But both men turn away. Jesus is calling us today, with the same words, "Follow me." What excuses do we make for not heeding his words? Are we too busy? Are we reluctant to give up our possessions, hobbies, and time? Are we willing to follow Jesus? Are we willing to proclaim the Gospel?

Jesus says in Luke 9:23, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." Following Jesus is not always easy. We face opposition, criticism, and many challenges. In Matthew 28:20 Jesus has promised us that He will always be with us. Do we dare take the steps needed to follow Him?
