2019-06-12 - Support
The word support, as described in Merriam-Webster online, has the transitive verb definition: endure bravely or quietly bear, uphold or defend as right, argue for or provide substantiation, or to hold up or serve as a foundation or prop for. The last of those, being a prop for or holding up, is how I would describe the stakes that I was moving around and gently fastening to my tomato plants. Particularly after now having several developing tomatoes, they have become less able to bear the weight without drooping toward the ground. After being secured with bamboo stakes and green Velcro strips wrapped around the stems, the plants were then standing tall and ready to receive sunshine again, being better supported.
Do you ever feel as though you need some extra support? A helping hand, an encouraging word, an ear to listen? God gives us many forms of sustenance: food, clothing, shelter, community, friends, family and acquaintances, and sometimes even strangers. He shares those things with us on earth, and he also will provide the opportunity to have them spiritually with Him. He hears anything we want to share with Him, gives us his word for encouragement and countless stories of those who came before us,who were dealing with the very same situations we all encounter. He is our solid ground (terra firma) along with the other ways he provides continual support for us along this journey. All we must do to be tethered to him is to ask. Once we do, He will never leave us. Through Jesus, he showed us how we could find no better support. Just ask. 😊
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” (Isaiah 40:29 NIV)
