Matthew 8:24 (NIV)—Suddenly, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat.

Last night, a strong storm suddenly developed over our county. The sky went from blue to black in a matter of minutes. Thunder, lightning and heavy rain quickly ensued. The storm was very slow moving, parked right over our house and lasted for over an hour. My wife needed to go to church for choir practice, but had to remain safely inside until the storm was over.

In our daily lives, we often face different kinds of storms. We may suffer a sudden, debilitating illness. Our job may be outsourced or streamlined. A loved one may pass away.

How do we handle life’s storms? We can rely on God and his promises, putting our lives in His hands. We can also seek comfort from Christians who have been through similar situations. We can ask God to help us learn and grow from the experience (See 2 Corinthians, Chapter 1.) Most of all, we must remember that we are not alone.

Matthew 28:20b (NIV) And surely I am with youalways, to the very end of the age.”

In the case of the disciples in the boat, Jesus woke up and calmed the storm. Are you trusting in Jesus to help you in your storm?
