2019-08-30 - Labor Day
1 Corinthians 3:9 (NIV)--"For we are co-workers in God's service."
This weekend, the United States and Canada will honor workers with a holiday, called Labor Day. Workers of every profession and job description are acknowledged for their contributions to the country. Everyone from the company manager to the janitor who cleans the floors is recognized for their endeavors. Each one is valued.
As Christians, we are called to work to spread the Gospel, to help the sick and poor, to serve others, and to manage the church's resources. Each of us has been give a special talent or talents to use, to serve God. (1 Corinthians 12:4-6) Some of us are equipped to be teachers. Others are furnished with the gift of preaching. Some people are good with finances or money, while others are gifted musicians or handy about fixing things. There are many laborers in God's Kingdom. We need to honor them, too, for their service to God. Have you thanked your Sunday School teacher for their faithful instruction lately? Have you praised your pastor, or acknowledged the workers who keep the church clean and available? This Labor Day weekend, let's take time to thank those who work for Christ in our churches.
