2019-09-14 - Spiritual Drought
Ezekiel 34:26 (NIV)--I will make them and the places surrounding my hill a blessing. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing."
It has not rained at our house, in over two weeks. The ground is dry, the grass is wilting, and the temperatures have been abnormally hot for this time of year. While the mountain leaves have started their natural process of falling in September, the leaves at our house are falling off early because of the lack of moisture. Wildlife is forced to search harder for sources of water and food. The drought is affecting many animals.
Have you ever experienced a spiritual drought? Most of us have, at one time or another. Have you felt estranged from God? Have you looked for answers to life's questions and come up short? The Bible gives us several examples of spiritual droughts. Job, after losing everything, questioned God. John the Baptist, imprisoned by Herod, sent his disciples to Jesus to ask if Jesus really was the one sent by God.
How do we get through spiritual droughts? Like Job, we can turn to our fellow believers for comfort and advice. We can seek guidance from our families, pastors and fellow churchgoers. We can talk to God in our prayers. We can seek guidance from His Word--the Bible. God sent the Holy Spirit to comfort us during difficult times. We can rest assured that God cares for us, and in His time, our spiritual drought will be ended with His refreshing blessings and assurances
