[Calvary Chapel] 2019-11-16 - Strong Winds

- - - - - - -

John 6:18 (NIV) A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough.

Recently, a cold front passed through our area, accompanied by strong winds. The weather forecasters predicted that trees would be toppled and power outages were possible. We were warned to keep our small boats off of area lakes.

We frequently experience strong winds in our personal lives. These winds may come in the form of illness, job difficulties, natural disasters or other problems. How do we handle these situations?

We can look at how Jesus’ disciples reacted to a windy situation. In Luke 6:16-21, they are in a boat, crossing a lake, when a strong wind comes upon them. How did they react? They became frightened that they may drown. Jesus came to their aid, and comforted them in their distress.

When we face strong winds in our lives, we too can turn to Jesus. He has promised to help us in tough times. Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened , and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NIV)

Are we looking to Jesus when the winds in our lives get too strong?
