[Calvary Chapel] 2019-12-28 - The Gift You Can't and Won't Return

- - - - - - -

Romans 6:23 (NIV) The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The day after Christmas is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Why would people go shopping the day after the biggest gift-giving day of the year? Would it be because of after-Christmas sales? Or because of gifts of cash that people want to spend? Perhaps the biggest reason is the desire to return gifts to the store.

People return gifts for numerous reasons. Perhaps the present was the wrong size or color. Maybe they already owned something similar. Some people return gifts so that they can buy something that they want more than the original gift.

The Christmas gift that cannot be returned, and that we do not want to return, is Jesus. When Jesus came to Earth, he gave us a gift that we can’t give back to God. (See John 10.) He came to free us from our sins. Jesus is the ultimate gift. You can never do anything to earn the gift of eternal life, and once you accept the gift, you will not want to return it. If you have not, will you accept His gift today?
