2020-03-14 - Doing Good (Works) in a Bad Situation
Proverbs 4:23(NIV) Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
During this time of Coronavirus, we find ourselves inundated with information about the spread of the illness. People have reacted in different ways. Some individuals have gone out to the stores and bought excessive amount of goods, leaving others without essentials. Others have made a point to check on their elderly neighbors and offer help. We have offered our extra can of Lysol to someone who is seriously ill and has none.
In the book of Proverbs, we are reminded that our heart is the “wellspring of life. “ If we store up good things in our hearts, our words and actions will also be good. Jesus said, “Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.“ (Matthew 12:34, NIV).
As we continue dealing with this crisis, let us proceed to store up good things in our hearts. We should read the Bible to remind us of God‘s love for us and His instructions to us on how we are to live. We should pray for others. And when we are able to do so, we can help others. We all need to stay home as much as possible but if absolutely necessary to go out right now, we can offer to elderly or sick neighbors that we are going out and see if we can pick up something for them. Let our behavior and actions in our lives show the good that is in our hearts.
