[PC-USA] 1999-02-05 - A One-Way Street

God has blessed me abundantly, but one trait He did not give me was a sense of direction. Because of this I have a high appreciation of Atlanta's one-way streets. It makes driving simple and logical. There is a one-way street we all must go on if we are to go to Heaven.

John 14:6 (NNAS) Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. Jesus doesn't say a way among many, or one of may truths, which are all equal.

In 1999 America, "exlcusivity" is more or less considered a profane word. And to be sure, there is no place in the Christian life for excluding someone because of race, socioeconomic background, appearance etc. God wants us to look on the heart as He does. (1 Sam. 16:7) But there is one area where there is no legitimate place for "tolerance", where there is only one true Path.

Some people truly believe that if one's beliefs are sincere, it does not matter what those beliefs are. In a newsletter of book reviews I recently read of a book called "The Interfaith Minister's Manual." The author says "Every one of them (religions) has a piece of the truth, but I don't feel any of them have it all. You can take from each of them the things that feel right for you and create your own philosophy." Yes, you can create your own philosophy. But only the belief system built upon the Bible and Jesus' sacrifice for our sins, will ensure our eternity in Heaven. Many of us have the idea we can find our own path to God, but God's word makes it clear that is not so.

Acts 4:12 (NNAS) And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.

If you have never called on the name of Christ, have never accepted His sacrifice on your behalf for salvation and want to do this, please write myself or any of my fellow devotional writers if you need help with this. If you know someone who is counting on someone or something other than Christ to get them to Heaven, please pray for God's words and timing to steer them in the right direction.

Dear Lord, thank You for making it clear in Your word, the path You have given us for spending eternity with You. Please use us to gently share Your truth with those who are misled. In Jesus' name amen.

Jan
