Our Lord is a compassionate God, and He wants us to show compassion to our fellow man, also.

Psa 51:1 (NRSV) Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.

Psa 103:13 (NRSV) As a father has compassion for his children, so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him.

Psa 145:9 (NRSV) The LORD is good to all, and his compassion is over all that he has made.

Mat 9:36 (NRSV) When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

2 Cor 1:3-4 (NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

Luke 6:35 (NRSV) But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.

Eph 4:32 (NRSV) and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.

Titus 2:3-5 (NRSV) Likewise, tell the older women to be reverent in behavior, not to be slanderers or slaves to drink; they are to teach what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be self-controlled, chaste, good managers of the household, kind, being submissive to their husbands, so that the word of God may not be discredited.

Phil 2:1-2 (NRSV) If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.

Col 3:12 (NRSV) As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.
