The Sermon on the Mount Series, Part 4
Matt 5:6 (NIV) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled
Continuing with our series on "The Sermon on the Mount," this week I would like us to think about our spiritual appetite. As we grow in Christ, we should be craving more and more, deeper spiritual things. Heb 5:14 (NRSV) But solid food is for the mature, for those whose faculties have been trained by practice to distinguish good from evil.
If we are not desiring that spiritual food, we need to ask God, and He will give us the craving. He will give us the desire to do His will: Phil 2:13 (NRSV) for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Let's do a heart-check. What are our strongest appetites for? What do we yearn for? Are we craving a new car more than we crave to have a heart like Christ's? Are we yearning for popularity or power, more than we yearn to walk in His paths? We should be yearning to be more righteous, more like Christ. And God promises to fulfill that desire. Let's take Him up on it.
Dear Lord, please help us to desire to be more like Your Son, and help us to become more and more like Him. In Jesus' name, amen.
