[CF Devotionals] 2013-09-10 - What Would a Canaanite Woman Say?

Matthew 15:22-28, Mark 7:24-30

The woman came and knelt before him. "Lord, help me!" she said. (Matthew 15:25 NIV)

Jesus had just finished debating with the Pharisees and teaching the disciples, when I found Him. I cried to God to be merciful and heal my daughter, who was gripped with pain. Neither Jesus nor His disciples offered any comforting words. The disciples just kept their distance. How could they ignore me like that?

Again, I asked Jesus to help. Jesus said that Jewish people had to be healed first. Was there some sort of quota? Just because I was a Canaanite woman, did not make my need any less important. I countered His point, that even others get their needs met by scraps and leftovers.

Jesus commented how great my faith was. My precious daughter was healed that very hour. I was in desperate need, and Jesus came to my aid.

Lord, Thank You for acknowledging me. You never cease to amaze me. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
