[CF Devotionals] 2013-09-23 - What Would Leah Say?

- - - - - - -

Genesis 29:14-35, 30:9-21, 35:23, 26

Leah had weak eyes, but Rachel was lovely in form, and beautiful. (Genesis 29:17 KJV)

Jacob and I did not have an ideal courtship. It was no secret that Jacob was in love with Rachel, my younger sister. On the day of their wedding, our father Laban tricked Jacob. When Jacob thought he was marrying Rachel, he was really marrying me. Jacob was furious that Laban deceived him.

Jacob’s affection for Rachel never dwindled, and the two later married, as it was legal then for a man to have more than one wife.

I thought having children would improve my marriage to Jacob. The birth of each child gave the hope of a deeper bond with Jacob, and it gave me the security of someone to love.

While Jacob was committed and attentive to me, it wasn’t the type of marriage I wanted. I didn ’t want to be second best. I wanted Jacob to show me love and admiration, the way he did to Rachel.

Lord, I have been looking to others to fill emptiness in my life. Please show me my value and worth, and help me find fulfillment in You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
