[CF Devotionals] 2014-01-07 - What Would Manasseh Say?

- - - - - -

2 Kings 21:1-18, 2 Chronicles 33:1-20

The final word on Manasseh was that he was an indiscriminate murderer. He drenched Jerusalem with the innocent blood of his victims. That’s on top of all the sins in which he involved his people. As far as God was concerned, he’d turned them into a nation of sinners.(2 Kings 21:16)

At the age of 12, I took the throne after my father’s death and reigned until the age of 67. I did not follow God as my father had. I am embarrassed at the evil things I did, the horrible things I enticed the people of Jerusalem to do. Of course the Lord did not condone our actions or let us get away with them. He warned us, but I of course did not listen. Then an army attacked me. These men put a hook in my nose and shackles on my feet and carried me away to Babylon.

That did it. I humbly asked God for help and He listened and brought me back to my kingdom, unthinkable but true. Right then and there I knew there was only one true and powerful God. I took down the idol altars, rebuilt the Lord’s temple, and made peace and thanksgiving offerings there. I demanded that the people also worship the Lord and they did!

I want my story to give others hope that people and situations can change for the better, when we listen to the Lord and obey.

Thank You Lord, that ultimately, You are in charge. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
