[CF Devotionals] 2014-02-12 - Speechless

- - - - - -

Sometimes lately, I find myself tired and unable to even come up with a complete thought. I began to contemplate my usual place to rest in the Bible, when those moments come along. The place is Psalms. David found himself feeling speechless, as well as a variety of other emotions that we all feel from time to time. Rather than keeping those emotions trapped within him, David shared them with God and then rested in his promises. Each time he did so, he gave God the opportunity to be the source of his restoration, and that is exactly what God wants for all of us. He doesn't need you to pretend everything is fine, doesn't want you to try and fix everything yourself, doesn't think you are ridiculous for having the feelings that he created in the first place. He just wants to be your source of strength, because he's the one you can count on when you feel like cheering his praises, or even when you're feeling speechless.

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God, for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.” (Psalm 42:5 KJV)

“I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. “ (Psalm 38:8)

“So I remained utterly silent, not even saying anything good. But my anguish increased. “ (Psalm 39:2)

“My flesh and my heart faileth, but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.” (Psalms 73:26 KJV)

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalms 51:10 KJV)

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint. “ (Isaiah 40:31 KJV)
