Ruth ~ Part 35 ~ Dependence on God and Modesty

- - - - - - -

Trait 5: The virtuous wife is dependent on God. This is, of course, a quality which all believers must exercise. We cannot live a meaningful life without dependency on God. But in order to be able to live with a husband and children, you’d better be dependent on God.

“May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.””

… she can laugh at the days to come. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (Ruth 2:12; Proverbs 31:25b, 30, NIV).

Trait 6: The virtuous wife dressed with care. Modesty is sadly missing from out culture. In reality, a woman who is immodest doesn’t respect herself. I would think a woman would want a husband who loves her for more than just her looks. After all, once one turns old, one’s looks aren’t up to Britney Spears’ standards. Also, a man respects a woman who respects herself.

“Wash and perfume yourself, and put on your best clothes. Then go down to the threshing floor, but don’t let him know you are there until he has finished eating and drinking.”

She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. She is clothed with strength and dignity” (Ruth 3:3; Proverbs 31:22, 25a, NIV).

To be continued.
