2015-11-02 - What Would Samuel Say?
And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, “Our sister, may you increase to thousands upon thousands; may your offspring possess the cities of their enemies.” (Genesis 24:60)
Time can change a man, I’ve heard people say. Perhaps that is what people say about me. I don’t know when I started believing lying and deceit were acceptable, or at least understandable, in my own life. I didn’t act that honorably with my nephew Jacob. I can’t bear to list all the deceit and sorrow I brought to the man. My intentions were to protect my daughters, my land, and my livelihood. It doesn't always end up how we've planned.
There was a time I listened to the Lord. I recall when my sister was to leave us, her family and get married to Isaac. My family relied on the Lord in those days. It was evident God wanted Rebekah and Isaac married, so who were we to stop that? Our mother and I prayed that Rebekah would have lots of kids Now one of them is standing in front of me! You have no idea how much I wanted his mother, my sister there too.
I hadn’t seen my sister in many years, and I admit I missed her. The last time Rebekah and I were together, was just before she left home to become Isaac’s wife. Rebekah was God’s choice for Isaac. He loved her. I recall Rebekah was very beautiful, helpful, obedient, and had a servant’s heart.
Lord, Please tend to my heart-brokenness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
