[Calvary Chapel] 2017-05-11 - Help for the Brokenhearted

- - - - - - -

Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

Many of us have run into situations that have wounded us deeply. According to the study notes in my Bible the word "wounds" can literally be translated "sorrows". Most of us have been sorrowful at one time or another. Sometimes these painful incidents have been resolved quickly. Other times they linger for years. The saddest of these linger until for one reason or another they can no longer be resolved.

Proverbs 27:6 tells us that "Faithful are the wounds of a friend." This is correction out of love and concern. While these can be painful they often open an issue so that it can be resolved. Not unlike a broken bone when it heals, the point of the break is stronger than the original bone. Friends become stronger from these moments. Be thankful for that friend who takes the time to open that difficult conversation.

There is one place we can take one of these wounds to our hearts and know they will be treated. They may not be healed immediately, but we will have had our concerns heard. God knows our hearts. Jesus knows how we feel when we are hurt in this way. He lived and walked in our shoes, was hungry, tired, sad, and joyful. He cares for us more than we understand.

Like the hymn says, "Take it to the Lord in prayer. In His arms He'll take and shield thee. Thou wilt find a solace there." (What a Friend We Have in Jesus Joseph M. Scriven, 1855, Public Domain).

Lord, Thank You for hearing our praise, our joys and our hurts. We know You understand our frailties. You have our best at heart in all You do for us. Help us to be patient in difficult times, and gracious and generous in good times. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
