[Calvary Chapel] 2017-05-18 - How's Your Walk?

- - - - - - -

Rom 12:12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer,

How is your walk in faith like driving home? I know some of you think the heat is getting to me, but hear me out please.

Tonight as I was getting ready to drive home, I checked the traffic maps and found my typical route very crowded. There was a note recommending a different road than I normally take - 17 minutes faster. Out of what is usually a 32 minute drive, that's a savings. So onward I went.

It took about two miles to run into a traffic accident that closed all the lanes on the planned route. I'm not very familiar with that area so I took an educated guess and continued. About two miles later the road had turned enough that I got out my phone and got directions. In about 10 minutes the trip was back on track, and I was thankful for a little technology.

So how is that like our Christian walk?

Have you ever started out with a plan that you were sure was going in the right direction only to run into a serious roadblock, or a temptation to take a shortcut you weren't too sure of, etc. You were either forced off your planned route, just like I was, or you wandered off the route. Instead of a GPS you went to prayer. The path you or I had planned may not be what the Lord had in mind for us. We don't always know why, but we can trust that it is for our benefit. He loves us! When we are willing to follow His plan, trust Him through trials, and be in prayer with Him we are walking with Him.

Selah! Think about that. If you are off the path ask Him for help. If you're ready to hand the steering wheel over to Jesus, pray. Don't just ask and hang up. Listen with your ears and your heart. Ask a friend you trust to pray with you. Watch what happens.

Lord Jesus - Thank You for being there this evening with the reminder that You have a path and a timing for us. I have no idea why the first part of the trip home tonight was filled with twists and turns, but You saw me safely home. I'm grateful for all the pieces of the puzzle that worked for my benefit. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
