[PC-USA] 2017-07-11 - 24/7 Guard

- - - - - - -

About five years ago, a professional football player was getting into such frequent trouble, that his team actually assigned rotating "keepers" of sorts, to accompany him 24/7, to try to steer him down the right paths! There were rules he was forced to obey, to retain his place on the team. When that was recently mentioned to me, it caused me to think that sometimes, it might be handy for us Christians to have someone like that, to keep us on the straight and narrow. For myself, I could occasionally use a "keeper" over my mouth, when I say something that I later regret!

Do you ever feel that way? If so, I have good news! God has given us someone to guard us and guide us, and that is the Holy Spirit!

Galatians 5:22-23 (NASB) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

However, the Holy Spirit doesn't violate our will; we must cooperate in order to receive his benefits. We must pray to be sensitive to His leading, and then when we know the right thing to do, we must obey.
