2017-11-06 - Behind the Scenes
A homemade sign posted in front of the local library said, “Book Sell 10-4.” The English major in me cringed upon reading it, but the spelling faux pas didn’t deter me from entering the library’s annual book sale.
I didn’t find anything to purchase except some educational comic books. My family is fond of comic books, and these titles were four for one dollar. A deal the frugal girl in me didn’t pass up.
I was excited about sharing my find with my family. I couldn’t wait to see the smile it would bring to their faces, especially my daughter’s.
I wanted her to appreciate what I do. She had no idea what I did behind the scenes. And while that is a huge portion of parenthood, it sometimes becomes difficult to continue helping, doing, and sacrificing without gratitude. If God had a mortal mind, would He think the same about His children, I wondered.
Psalm 46:10 tells us the Lord’s expectations. “Be still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth.” (AMP) How often do I thank and praise God for Him hearing or answering my prayer? I rarely paused to thank Him for His new mercies each morning. (see Lamentations 3:22-23)
My daughter wasn’t exactly thrilled with my book sale purchase. Perhaps if the cover had florescent colors and a princess, her face would have lit up. I felt thankful anyway. The library trip was an opportunity to show her and me not to take our parents, either mortal or Heavenly, for granted.
