[CF Devotionals] 2018-09-29 - Trials and Tests

James 1:12 (NIV)--Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised those who love him.

The Christian life is full of trials and tests. The Bible gives us plenty of examples. Jesus faced opposition from the religious leaders of his day. Paul was chased off from several towns, because of his forceful preaching. The early church was persecuted and harassed. Jesus even guaranteed that we would have them.

John 16:33 (NLT) I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world."

Today, in numerous countries, Christians are attacked and persecuted. For example, in China, churches were recently closed down, and the church must meet in secrecy. In many Middle Eastern countries, the Christian churches are attacked and persecuted. Sometimes, Christians are immolated by people from other religions. Even in our own country, public prayers at athletic events are often prohibited.

What trials and tribulations are you experiencing? Christians are not exempt from troubles. James tells us that we will be tested. How we respond is the key. We are told that through our perseverance, we will receive a reward--eternal life.
