2018-10-16 - Thank You Notes
As I am sure some of you did, I grew up with regular reminders from my mother, about writing thank-you notes for presents and kind or helpful acts. It is a practice that is ingrained into not only in my mind, but also my heart. I strongly believe it is important to show appreciation, when the opportunity arises.
After my father’s death earlier this year, there were a lot of thank-you notes to write: For memorial gifts given to churches in his honor, for funeral flowers, for help navigating a brand-new process to me, when I was serving as an executrix for a will. And most recently, I have added thank-yous to Facebook pages for business representatives who were especially kind and helpful when I was closing out Dad’s accounts, such as satellite television personnel and his sanitation service. Occasionally, I have been known to write a public thank-you, via Letters to the Editor, when I think it is fitting.
Thanking people is one habit of which I am actually pretty faithful.
But I recently realized that I have not been so faithful, when it comes to “thank-you notes” for God. So consider the rest of this paragraph to be just a beginning, of thank-you notes to our Lord and Savior. I am thankful for my salvation, which I didn’t have to earn, for a wonderful husband and our beloved dog, for loving family and some special friends, for good neighbors, a roof over my head - and with climate control, no less. I could go on and on, but I hope that you will join me in “writing thank-you notes to God.” If you do, and you feel comfortable sharing, I would love to read them - and maybe even publish them as a devotional, if we receive enough.
Thank You, God, for growing this devotional ministry during the last 22 years, from 80 readers to over 4000, that we are honored to serve. Thank you for speaking to our hearts about topics that touch people’s lives, for YOU are really the Author of all these devotionals. In Jesus’ name, amen.
